Did you know that across the whole of Australia there are only 2 Aboriginal Lighting Designers, 4 Sound Designers, 1 Set Designer and ZERO trained Stage Managers, Costume Designers, Production Managers and Set Builders? These are key roles in the creation of theatre and the industry is in desperate need of more Blackfullas who are skilled in the backstage roles. In recognition of this, Yirra Yaakin has developed the ‘Behind the Scenes Workshop Series’.

Over 4 consecutive Saturdays, we will offer up to 20 workshop participants the opportunity to work with industry professionals from all facets of theatre making including Set Design, Lighting, Sound, Workshop (set building), Dramaturgy, Producing, Directing and Stage Management. The ‘Behind the Scenes Workshop Series’ is for Perth-based First Nations participants of all experience levels and open to those aged between 15 and 99 years old!

Workshop venue: Subiaco Arts Centre

Participants must be based in Perth, Western Australia, and be at least double vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide a Certificate of Vaccination before workshops commence.
