Media Release – 24 June 2022

Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company does not condone nor dismiss any acts of violence of any nature, nor do we ignore or seek to silence any call for assistance, help or support in such circumstances.

As a professional theatre company and registered Aboriginal corporation, it is our duty to care for our people and community, including all people involved in our work, performances and productions. As such, we seek to support our artists and creatives engaged and employed by Yirra Yaakin. As we are professional artists and arts administrators, we are not professional councillors and accordingly, do not seek to over-extend our role and reach into the personal lives or circumstances of our artists and creatives.

If anyone is experiencing domestic violence we strongly advocate that they access appropriate support, including:

1800RESPECT National sexual assault, domestic family violence counselling service – 1800 737 732

Mens’ Domestic Helpline – 1800 000 599

Womens’ Domestic Helpline – 1800 007 339

Or contact your local police on 131 444
