Behind the Scenes School Holiday Workshops Intensive!
Are you Aboriginal, aged between 15 – 18 and interested in learning about the backstage and technical roles of theatre making? If so, this program is for you!
Yirra Yaakin is excited to be offering FREE school holiday workshops aimed to build interest and encourage future Aboriginal Arts workers, by providing participants with an introduction to the backstage and key technical roles of theatre making including lighting, sound, stage management, set and costume design.
We are offering 15 young people the opportunity to participate in this exciting new program! Details are as follows:
Venue: Subiaco Arts Centre
Dates: 2 – 6 October (during the school holidays)
Time: 10am – 4pm each day
Food: Lunch will be provided each day.
In recognition of the demand for more Aboriginal arts workers across Australia, the Behind the Scenes Workshops have been developed to expose young people to the backstage and behind the scenes roles of theatre making.
The workshops aim to build the interest of and encourage future Aboriginal arts workers by providing participants with an introduction and basic skills of technical art forms necessary to create theatre (and transferable to all art forms).
Over 5 workshops, participants will be introduced to key technical roles of theatre making including set design, lighting design, sound design and set construction. At the completion of the workshops, participants will have a better understanding of technical roles in theatre and be able to produce a basic performative outcome.
