Ngalaka Daa (Our Tongue) Ensemble is Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company’s distinctive cultural enrichment program for young people aged 14 – 22 years.
This intensive theatre-making program offers young Aboriginal and non Aboriginal participants the opportunity to develop professional-level skills in performance, storytelling, and Noongar language. Grounded in culture and community, the Ngalaka Daa Ensemble nurtures the next generation of performers, language carriers and cultural leaders.
Lead by professional theatre artists and Noongar language experts, members of the Ngalaka Daa Ensemble participate in a ten-week program of Noongar language comprehension and pronunciation workshops combined with theatre making and performance skills.
Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company provides young people with vital opportunities to participate in the performing arts as well as promoting the sustainability of one of the oldest languages in the world.
What participants can expect:
• Intensive workshops and rehearsals.
• Curated public performance opportunities.
• Professional mentorship and guidance.
Participants will train with industry leaders in a wide range of areas, including:
• Performance preparation and stagecraft.
• Movement and physical theatre.
• Acting techniques: monologue, dialogue and
ensemble, vocal techniques and voice projection.
• Noongar language comprehension and articulation.

Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company is inviting young people ages 14-22 to audition for a spot in our 2026 Ngalaka Daa Ensemble.
Lead by professional theatre artists and Noongar language experts, members of the Ngalaka Daa Ensemble participate in a ten-week program of Noongar language learning combined with theatre making and performance skills in an engaging workshop format.
Ensemble members learn Noongar language over a term of workshops and refine their performing skills. The Ngalaka Daa Ensemble presents its annual performance at beautiful Boola Baardip, WA Museum’s Hackett Hall.
This very special experience offers a fantastic opportunity to participate in the performing arts and learn one of the world’s oldest languages.

How To Audition
In-person auditions will be held on Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd of April 4:30 – 6:00pm at King Street Art Centre, Perth. Participants are asked to prepare a 1-2 minute monologue in any style.
