Creative Partnerships Australia | Plus 1 - All Our Futures

Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company is pleased to announce our Indigenous Cultural Leadership Initiative ‘All Our Futures’ has been selected for the Creative Partnerships Australia 2014/2015 Plus1 Match Funding round. 268 applications were received nationwide for the funding initiative, of which only 63 were awarded funding.

Yirra Yaakin Artistic Director Kyle Morrison said the All Our Futures’ campaign is a one off initiative that aims to raise $25,000 which will be matched dollar-for-dollar to grow the next generation of Indigenous Cultural Leadership.

“We are seeking funds to support two selected professional trainees - Ian Wilkes & Shakara Walley in a 12 month program of professional development with us at Yirra Yaakin”, Mr Morrison said.

“We believe theatre can play a major role in promoting the culture and language of Indigenous Australia. By investing in our future artists and producers we are ensuring that Aboriginal theatre is culturally significant, inspiring, motivating and self-determined for generations to come.”

This timely initiative responds to the problem that Australia struggles to support and nurture Aboriginal creative leaders across all areas of the performing arts, with a critical deficit existing in the areas of producing, directing, technical, production & project management. This initiative also acknowledges that entry into the arts industry for any emerging artist is genuinely challenging.

One-off tax deductible donations can be made online via Yirra Yaakin’s donations page, or please contact Partnerships Manager Sally Richardson if you wish to discuss how best you might be able to support this exciting initiative.

Any amount donated to the program will be matched by Creative Partnerships Australia dollar-for-dollar. Yirra Yaakin’s first ever crowdfunding Pozible campaign starts on Tuesday 17 March and will end on 28 May 2015.

‘All Our Futures’ is supported by Creative Partnership Australia through Plus1.
