Live Performance Australia

Yirra Yaakin is a member of Live Performance Australia (LPA), the peak body for Australia’s live entertainment and performing arts industry. Established in 1917 and registered as an employers’ organisation under the Workplace Relations Act 1996, LPA’s activities centre around three core areas:

• Workplace Relations • Policy & Strategy • Membership Services & Events

LPAs members work in the live performance sector across all artistic genres, including contemporary and classical music, musicals, theatre, comedy, dance, opera, circus and physical theatre. They represent producers, venues, promoters, performing arts companies, festivals and industry suppliers such as ticketing companies and technical specialists.

LPA also services the cinema and exhibition industries.

LPA is the trading name of the Australian Entertainment Industry Association (AEIA).

Blakstage Alliance

BLAKSTAGE is a national Indigenous theatre alliance comprised of state and territory representatives.

Its role is to speak of the inclusion and development of Indigenous people of all aspects of theatre.

BLAKSTAGE nurtures, supports and lobbies for the positive advancement of Indigenous theatre in Australia.

Honouring Theatre

Yirra Yaakin Aboriginal Corporation, Native Earth in Canada and Taki Rua in New Zealand joined forces to create a global pathway for Indigenous theatre.

The concept came to life in 2004 during a meeting between the creative heads of each company. They signed an historic memorandum of understanding outlining their commitment to work together to tour works to each participating nation.

The first Honouring Theatre tour took place in Canada in 2006. Yirra Yaakin staged the multi-award winning award play WINDMILL BABY. The play was seen by audiences across Canada and received rave reviews.
